Common Problems

What Is Your Fridge Doing?

Refrigerator faults follow clear patterns. The symptom usually tells us which component failed before we even open the back panel.

Not cooling at all

The light comes on and the fan may run, but nothing inside is cold.

Usually: refrigerant leak, failed compressor, or a burnt start relay

Freezer cold, fridge warm

Ice forms fine upstairs but the lower compartment stays at room temperature.

Usually: failed evaporator fan, blocked air damper or a defrost fault

Too much ice build-up

A thick wall of frost in the freezer, or ice forming on the back panel of the fridge.

Usually: defrost heater, defrost timer or thermostat failure

Water leaking

Puddles inside the vegetable drawer, or water running onto the floor.

Usually: blocked defrost drain tube or a perished door gasket

Loud noise or constant running

The compressor never switches off, or there is a rattle, buzz or clicking every few minutes.

Usually: condenser fan, overload protector or low refrigerant charge

No power at all

No interior light, no display, no sound from the compressor.

Usually: supply fault, thermostat, or an inverter control board failure

What We Fix

Sealed System Work, Done Properly

Gas charging is where most repair shops cut corners. Topping up a system that is leaking just delays the problem by a few weeks — so we find and seal the leak first, then evacuate and charge to the manufacturer's specification.

  • Gas leak detection and chargingLeak traced and sealed, system vacuum-evacuated, then charged with the correct refrigerant and weight — not a guess-and-top-up.
  • Compressor and relayStart relay, overload protector, capacitor and full compressor replacement where the unit has genuinely failed.
  • Defrost and cooling circuitDefrost heaters, timers, bi-metal thermostats, evaporator and condenser fans, and blocked drain lines.
  • Inverter boards and controlsModern inverter fridges fail electronically as often as mechanically. We diagnose the board rather than condemning the compressor.

Parts We Commonly Replace

Manufacturer-approved components, and the failed part handed back to you.

  • Compressor (all capacities)
  • Start relay and overload protector
  • Thermostat and temperature sensors
  • Evaporator and condenser fan motors
  • Defrost heater and defrost timer
  • Door gasket / magnetic seal
  • Filter drier and capillary tube
  • Inverter / main control PCB
  • Refrigerant (R600a, R134a and others)
  • Door hinges, handles and shelving
How It Works

From Your Call to a Cold Fridge

1

Emergency triage

Tell us the brand, model and symptom by phone or through the booking form. Dead fridges get priority slots.

2

Proper diagnosis

We test the sealed system, electricals and controls to find the real fault — then quote a fixed price before touching anything.

3

Repair and cool-down test

Repaired on site where possible, then left running while we verify it is actually pulling temperature. 90-day warranty on parts and labour.

Repair Cost

What Changes the Price

Refrigerator repair costs vary more than any other appliance. Here is what actually drives the number.

Sealed system or notA thermostat or fan is a straightforward job. Gas charging or a compressor swap is significantly more involved.
Fridge size and typeSingle door units are simplest. Side-by-side and frost-free double doors carry more components and more labour.
Refrigerant typeR600a and R134a systems need different handling, equipment and gas quantities.
Inverter or conventionalInverter models may need board-level diagnosis, which takes longer but often avoids a costly compressor replacement.

Call 9716826434 with your model number for a realistic estimate before you book.

FAQ

Fridge Repair Questions

Why is my fridge not cooling but the light still works?

The light runs on the door switch, so it works even when the cooling system is dead. It usually means a refrigerant leak, a failed compressor, or a burnt start relay. If the compressor is warm and humming but nothing gets cold, the relay is the first thing we check — it is also the cheapest of the three to fix.

How do I know if my fridge needs gas refilling?

Typical signs are the compressor running constantly without cooling, partial cooling in the freezer only, or frost forming in one small patch on the evaporator. Important: refrigerant is a sealed system — it does not "run out" with use. If it is low, there is a leak, and any technician who tops it up without finding that leak is taking your money for a repair that will fail again in weeks.

My freezer is cold but the fridge section is warm. Why?

In frost-free models, cold air is made in the freezer and blown down into the fridge compartment. If that evaporator fan fails, or the air damper is blocked with ice, the freezer stays cold while the fridge slowly warms up. It is a common fault and usually repairable in one visit.

Is replacing a compressor worth the money?

On a mid-size or large fridge that is otherwise in good condition, yes — a new compressor typically costs far less than a replacement refrigerator and adds many years. On a small, very old, or rusted unit, it often is not worth it. We check the cabinet, door seals and evaporator before recommending the work, and we tell you honestly when replacement is the better option.

Why is there so much ice in my freezer?

In a frost-free fridge, a heater melts frost off the evaporator on a timed cycle. When the defrost heater, timer or bi-metal thermostat fails, ice builds up until it blocks airflow completely. Manual defrosting clears it for a week or two, but the fault comes straight back until the defrost component is replaced.

How long does a fridge repair take?

Fan, thermostat, relay and defrost repairs are typically finished in 60 to 90 minutes. Gas charging takes longer because the system must be leak-tested, evacuated and charged properly, then left to pull temperature. Compressor replacement is the longest job and sometimes needs a follow-up visit to confirm performance.

Do you repair at home or take the fridge away?

At your home, nearly always — including gas charging, because our technicians carry the equipment with them. Book a doorstep visit and we will bring the likely spares based on what you describe.
