Solo, Grill and Convection
Each type fails differently. Convection models add heating elements and fans that solo ovens simply do not have.
Solo microwave
Basic heating only. Faults are almost always the magnetron, HV circuit, door switches
or turntable drive — and repairs are usually the quickest and cheapest of the three.
Grill microwave
Adds a quartz or sheathed grill element. On top of the usual microwave faults we also
see burnt-out grill elements and failed relays that switch them.
Convection microwave
Adds a fan and a ring heating element for baking. More components, more sensors, and
more to go wrong — but also the most worth repairing given what they cost new.

Tested for Leakage Before It Goes Back
A microwave is the one kitchen appliance where a bad repair is genuinely dangerous. The door seal, interlock switches and cavity form a shield that keeps radiation inside — and any of those can be disturbed during a repair.
So every oven we work on is leak-tested with a survey meter before it leaves the workshop. If it does not pass, it does not go back to you.

Microwave Oven Repair Questions
My microwave runs but doesn't heat. What's wrong?
This is the most common microwave fault we see. The control side is working — light, turntable, timer — but the high-voltage side that actually generates microwaves has failed. It is normally the magnetron, the high-voltage diode or the HV capacitor. The diode is the cheapest of the three and is worth checking first, which is exactly what we do rather than quoting a magnetron straight away.
Why is my microwave sparking inside?
Usually the mica waveguide cover — a small beige panel on the cavity wall. Food splatter burns onto it, carbonises, and then arcs. It is a cheap part and a quick replacement. Other causes are damaged cavity paint exposing bare metal, or metal left inside (foil, a spoon, a plate with a metallic rim).
Is it safe to keep using a microwave that sparks?
No. Stop using it. Arcing can burn through the cavity lining and damage the magnetron and waveguide, turning a cheap repair into an expensive one — and a breach in the cavity compromises the shielding that keeps radiation contained. Unplug it and book a repair.
Why shouldn't I open the microwave myself?
The high-voltage capacitor inside can hold a lethal charge long after the oven is unplugged — this is not the same as the mild shock you might get from other appliances, and it has killed people. It must be discharged properly with the right tool before anything else is touched. Of every appliance in your home, this is the one we genuinely ask people to leave alone.
Is replacing a magnetron worth it?
On a convection or grill model, usually yes — they cost a lot to replace new, and a magnetron restores full life. On a cheap, old solo microwave the magnetron can cost a large share of a new unit, and we will say so rather than taking the job. Honest diagnosis is one of our four rules.
Do you check for radiation leakage after repair?
Yes, on every microwave we repair. Once the cavity, door or interlocks have been disturbed, the shielding needs verifying — so we test with a microwave survey meter after reassembly. An oven that does not pass does not go back to the customer.
How long does a microwave repair take?
Typically two to three days including pickup, diagnosis, repair and safety testing. Mica covers, door switches and turntable motors are quick. Magnetron and transformer work takes longer, particularly if the part needs ordering for your model.
Do you repair at home or take it to the workshop?
At our Samakhusi workshop. Microwave repair needs the capacitor discharged safely and the oven leak-tested afterwards — neither is something to do on a kitchen counter. We collect and return it free of charge. Book a pickup here.
